((Starting a new thread for easier reading))
Alex leans back in his chair. "Alright, so for lack of a better term, we 'job shadow' each other to try to understand both the way we think and the way we perform magick better. So I guess the question now is, who should go with who? I have some ideas, but I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks."

Anya stretches, thinking. "Well, for people who think most like me, it'd have to be Chance." She shoots him a fond look. "I know we don't actually have anything in common, you know, magically, but I think it'd be fun to try to outthink each other on the fly. And then...Venisha. Beyond the fact that we can do some similar things, your level of physicality makes sense to me. Plus, I'm pretty sure we were onto the same idea with the Marauder before she decided to scram. So, if we're splitting off, that'd be my choice."
She frowns, thoughtful. "But still. Dr. S., nothing you do makes sense to me, but I kinda want to compare techniques with prime one of these days. And Alex..." She pauses for a second, but sighs and decides to get it over with. "We should probably sit down and talk about drug use. Magickal use of drugs, I mean. I've got a feeling how you use them and I can use them are nothing alike, but in a pinch, it might be handy to know." Mock seriously. "But remember, if you want to know more than theory about my use, you need to ask."

"Honestly, I think it could be worthwhile to spend time with each of you. I'm fascinated by people who work with *things*, so I'm eager to watch Dr Stake and Chance."

Anya nods. "And it's sorta limiting to just learn about the people we think are the most like us. And, democracy or not in non crisis times, Alex at least needs an idea of what we all do when the next whatever tries to kill us."

"Very true," Venisha agrees. She turns to Alex. "Do you have a preference as to who you begin with? Or was today's sparring the beginning?"

Alex looks towards Venisha. "No, I mostly wanted to see if I could keep up with you without cheating. I can't, but I certainly make you work for it, and that's good enough for me. Everything else I had planned was vaguely sociopathic and ill-conceived, so let's just scrap that."
He then looks to Anya. "Oh, I plan on us all trying to find common ground, or at least knowing what the others can do, I just think that picking the closest is easing ourselves into it. Plus, then we can use that mutual understanding to bridge the gap to the next person. As far as the drug use..."
He shakes his head. "Let's jump past that for now. First, most of my drugs are actually placebos. A significant amount of the ones that aren't placebos wouldn't be the type of thing that would be mood affecting. Those that are, I wouldn't let you take, as you've already made your opinion on that previously clear and I won't be responsible for your relapse. Besides, I really only break out peyote and hashish for heavy spirit rituals, so it's not something you could help with and I suspect it's not something you'd likely learn."
He pauses as if thinking about saying something more, then shakes his head and continues in what seems to be a different direction. "Venisha and Dr. Stake are the most obvious ones for me. Stake and I can both think big and crazy and at least somewhat within the realm of mundane science, but we don't really have any abilities we share. Venisha and I overlap on the philosophy and our expertise with life, and the places where we differ would probably be fairly easy to reconcile. Anya, I really don't get your way of doing things, we have no ability overlap and I'm leery of mind magic, so yeah, you're right, probably the hardest for us to relate."
He glances at Chance. "Well, probably. Chance and I seem to have some similar tools and share the ability to manipulate entropy, as well as tend to be meddlesome...but I think the way we look at things will be a problem. I think we both got the same or similar data and came to vastly different conclusions based around it."

"And it'd be the mood altering drugs that I could actually use, of course. You can probably guess the list. Roughly speaking, uppers help go faster than the speed of time, downers help relax, open awareness, make time pass more slowly. Or I can use them to affect other people's minds. All the trip, none of the chemicals." Anya makes a face. "The time stiff is more theory than practice. I've not done it myself, but I've ridden other people's experiences. I just haven't figured out how to do it without...with other tools yet."
Anya sits thinking for a minute. "I don't like the phrase: let me take. But it is your stash. So. Responsibility. ...Yeah, I didn't want you doing medicine and triggering dependece accidentally. But if I ask for something in a true the-sky-is-falling emergency, not in the I-hurt-or-am-having-a-bad-day situation, then it's my decision and I've weighed the pros and cons. If that happens, I am responsible for whatever fallout, not you. And if I ever think I need to take them for Magickal purposes, it'd be nice to have something where I know where it came from, that it's pure, and exactly how much I'm taking." She makes an effort to perk up. "I'd say that I've not had a legit need to take since like a year into training, which was a while back, so no need to worry, but I'm pretty sure I'd just be jinxing it somehow. And yes, I know you said skip it. I am choosing to ignore that."
"As for you and Chance. I feel like if you actually spent time together not pissing each other off, you might find more similarities than you think."

(Ooc: So, whenever people are around for it, just create sidebars for each job shadowing interaction? Or how should we set it up logistically..)

((Sorry about not replying sooner. Not quite sure how to proceed myself, since we all seem to be going through very busy periods of our lives. Any ideas?))

(Ooc: Life, it happens.
I think if people want to do the pairing up for "job shadowing", which I think is a good idea on three fronts - 1) allow more exploration of practices and instruments and being more ready with ideas for the in person sessions; 2) allow us to think of more synergistic ways to combine magicks both IC and OOC; 3) more RP and building of relationships, which I'm always in favor of - then creating a thread for each pairing under Sidebars is the best way to do it. Leave the "London" tab for RP that all five are expected to participate in.
This will keep the board manageable and will allow for more flexible opportunities to RP. Either one of your threads has updated or it hasn't. No one has to worry about giving other people time to react before posting. Also, we can leave the time tenuous and not worry about rushing to finish up before the next session.
Any other opinions or suggestions from anyone?)

(OOC: I'm back from vacation and should be able to get back to posting. Is the idea to have small RP scenarios with a primary character and a shadower?)

(Ooc: I think it'd be more interesting all around to have it be more collaborative rather than have one person do all the work. Whether the characters talk out magick, have friendly duels, do literally take the other person to their job, or just try to get in and out of trouble together, it'd be up to the each duo. For instance, I can see Chance and Anya skipping theory in favor of practice, maybe by busking and having a day on the town? Whereas I figure any RP with Alex will include a fair bit of theory and talking out viewpoints.
Almost like spotlight episodes, with both characters of equal importance, with the point being to compare and contrast methodology and worldview. And hopefully have fun at it too.)
